Support Georgia's Forests
Georgia's forests are among our greatest and most prized assets. They clean our air by gobbling up carbon dioxide, produce oxygen for all of us to breathe, help clean our water, cool our air, support enormous amounts of other plant life and vegetation and provide an invaluable habitat for many animals, birds and insects. By participating in this program, you are also supporting the many other benefits our forests bring to all Georgians.
We want to help provide the science that will energize and validate new uses for Georgia's forests.
Mike Clutter, Dean of the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of Georgia
According to the Georgia Forestry Association:
- Of Georgia's 36.8 million acres of total land area, 66% is forested, the sixth largest percentage among all the states and twice the national average.
- Georgia has over 23 million acres of commercial forestland, more than any other state.
- Georgia has replanted more than 3 billion trees over the past decade.
- Georgia is second in the nation with more than 3,800 certified Tree Farms that total nearly eight million acres.
- Each day Georgia loses over 300 acres of forests to land conversion, development, roads, etc.
